Research on the ‘Acute Hersenhulp’ at the Academic Medical Center Amsterdam

Already when I was a second year Medicine student I was interested in the brain. For that reason I applied to a student assistant research position with Yvo Roos, MD. He built up the ‘Acute HersenHulp AMC’ (AHHA) where patients suffering strokes were treated as soon as possible (approximately 25 minutes) to keep the brain damage limited.

My task was to create a database of all the treated patients from 1998 to 2008 with their corresponding treatment timings, their functional outcomes etc. to be able to estimate the effect of the implementation of the AHHA on the treatment times and as a consequence, on patient’s recovery.
